Homestyle prawn curry

Today I'm gonna sharing a simple recipe, Indian homestyle prawn curry. Though there are various types of way to make the curry as India has a vast culture and tradition, here I'm sharing the prawn curry mostly made in east India. It is a regular recipe mostly made and enjoyed with family in the weekends. The recipe includes least amount of ingredients, but you will definitely find it simple yet tasty. For those who are fan of Indian cuisine but an amateur cook, this prawn curry is definitely worth a try. Always use fresh river prawns for a better taste. Keep in mind not to overcook the prawns, otherwise it becomes rubbery. This prawn curry always goes well with simple steamed rice. So try out this prawn curry today. Do try our other recipes as well.

Peel and devein the prawns. Wash it properly. Add little bit of turmeric powder and salt. Toss it well. Keep it aside to rest for 10 minutes.

In the same kadai add little bit more oil (if required). Add the whole spices.

Toss it for 30 sec. or until you smell the aroma of whole spices.

Now add chopped onion and slitted green chillies. Put a little bit salt. Fry on low-medium m flame for 10 minutes. Fry untill onions turn translucent.

Crush the ginger garlic in a mortar and pestle. Crushed ginger garlic always tastes best rather than ginger garlic paste.

Now add the crushed ginger garlic to the onions. Add turmeric powder powder and kashmiri red chilli powder. Fry for 2 minutes.

Add chopped tomatoes. Add salt. Fry on low flame until the tomatoes turn soft. When oil starts to float over add the prawns. Saute it for 2 minutes.

Now add hot water to it. Bring it to boil. Boil for 5 more minutes on medium flame. Adjust the thickness of gravy according to your choice.

Finish the prawn curry with chopped coriander leaves. Serve hot with steamed rice.
